Poets in Schools Programme Ledbury Poetry Festival’s Poets in Schools programme sends poets into the classroom to inspire pupils to read, write and thoroughly enjoy poetry. This year six poets will visit seven schools for a total of 10 days in June. Each school will also have one after-school poetry event, held on its premises with poets and pupils reading to an audience of family, friends and relatives, followed by a book signing for parents and children. This year 6 poets taking part in the Poets in Schools programme are: James Carter, Simon Pitt, Philip Wells, Roz Goddard, Julie Boden, Matt Black. The 7 schools involved are: Ashperton Primary, Bromsberrow Saint Mary’s C. E. Primary, Colwall Primary, Eastnor C. E. Primary, Ledbury Primary, Much-Marcle C. E. Primary, and Pendock C. E. Primary. The Out Loud event will be held at the Community centre as part of the Festival on Monday July 7 from 1.30pm – 3.00pm. This is when pupils from the Poets in Schools programme will perform their poems. The John Masefield High School will also take part in the Out Loud event, performing poems created in workshops with 'dub' poet Moqapi Selassie.
