Exhibitions
All That We See Is Vision
Burgage Hall
An exhibition inspired by William Blake, combining word and image, as he did in his illuminated books.
To celebrate the 250th anniversary of William Blake's birth, artists Felicity Roma Bowers and Helen Elwes and poet Stephen Micalef invited over 60 artists and poets inspired by the spirit and work of William Blake to submit a page to be published in a limited edition artists' book.
The contributions are expressive, intimate, quirky, contemplative and diverse, representing personal Blakean reflections from artists such as Chris Orr RA, Tom Phillips RA, Andrea McLean, Partou Zia, Robin Williamson, Roger Wagner, Olivier Garbay, Brian Catling, Michael Horovitz and Adrian Mitchell.
Excavations of Eternity
1st - 31st July Icebytes Cafe
An evolving exhibition of poems by Nick Alexander and pictures by artist and illustrator Jeanette McCulloch.
Excavations of Eternity is a collaboration exploring a subject that is by definition uncontainable, while at the same time all-encompassing. Nick Alexander will read his poems at the launch of this exhibition on Monday 7th July at 8.30pm.
Bird Words
Weavers Gallery
The exhibition, by a group of textile artists called Bombax, is inspired by the poetry anthology: Birdsong, compiled by Dewi Roberts and published by Seren.
"In reading this collection of poems about birds, by Welsh poets, we were struck by how often descriptions of the birds used textile imagery to convey the image or mood: waeving a lost age; stitching the sky; cutting contours; clothed with a white edged golden shawl that fitted about the head."
The exhibition does not slavishly follow text but takes a wry look at birds as symbols, how they see the world and as carriers of the poetic image through the medium of textile.
Bombax exhibitors are: Corinne Renow-Clarke; Anne Shoring; Ann White and guest exhibitor: Kit Tyrell.
