Herefordshire is known for the quality of its local food and drink and on Sunday 3rd July you have an opportunity to find out what this county has to offer. Local cider and wines, cheese, bread, delicious desserts, so don’t eat before you leave home!

87. Festival Schools Day

Poetry for £1.00!
Featuring Val Bloom, Chrissie Gittins and Andrew Fusek Peters. Invite your Year 5 and 6 students. This exciting workshop day offers students the enriching experience of hearing varied forms of poetry performed by renowned poets. Also a unique opportunity to work with these experienced writers.

Festival Schools Day and Children's Festival sponsored by Pennington-Mellor-Munthe Charitable Trust.

 

88. Out Loud! Festival Launch

Expect exuberant and humorous poems, zingy performances, lots of action, wild and wonderful flights of fancy. Whoop and shout with three poets, who between them have published numerous collections including Duppy Jamboree, Mad, Bad and Dangerously Haddock, and The Humpback's Wail.

 

Saturday 7 July

89. Flag Making: How Will Your Garden Grow?
10am - 12 noon
The Baptist Church
Free drop in workshop, ages 5+
Help Illustrator and Theatre Designer Ali Glanville Jones find the words and pictures that will help make the flowers blossom, the trees bloom and the sun rise! Create flags and textiles to hang in the Baptist Church garden. All materials provided!


90. Hey Little Bug! Poems for little creatures with James Carter
10.30am - 11am and 11.30am - 12 noon
Ledbury Children's Centre
£1 per child with an accompanying adult
A gentle, fun and interaction session for 0-6 year olds and their parents. Action rhymes, music and poems aplenty. Support by Ledbury Children's Centre - tickets available only through the Centre.

92. Journey to the Centre of My Brain with James Carter

Ever met an alien? James is probably the closest you'll ever get. Come along for a madcap session from the quirkiest and liveliest poet and guitarist in town.

 

93. Wonderful Beast presents Coat of Umpteen Pockets
2.30pm - 3.30pm
Baptist Church
£3, ages 7 - 11
Inspired by Adrian Mitchell's book Umpteen Pockets, two actors, including Adrian's daughter Sasha, and a musician bring these funny, insightful, playful and beautiful poems to life. Each performer has a magical coat with 'umpteen pockets' out of which appear poems and songs to make children laugh, listen, dig deep into their imaginations and to sing.

Wonderful Beast provides a post-show workshop in which children are encouraged by the three performers to have fun with words and to create and perform their own poems.

 

95. A is Amazing: Wendy Cooling and illustrator Piet Grobler

Family event. Celebrate the wonders that can be experienced when words and pictures really work together. There are poems for all moods in A is Amazing, chosen by Bookstart founder Wendy Cooling and illustrated by Piet Grobler. Listen to the poems and be ready to join in with your thoughts and ideas.

96. Animate a Poem drop in day
11am - 4pm
Market Theatre
Free
Come and help to create an animated poem using the magic of stopmotion animation. Make characters and scenery from the poem by using a range of exciting materials and watch them come alive! Also try your hand at other simple animation techniques. It's fun and by the end of the day we will have made a film of our poem!


97. Balloonheads and Wordwigs

Create your very own Balloonhead with an acrostic poem Word Wig! Poet and Blue Peter badge-winner Sara-Jane Arbury will guide you through the art and craft of making your colourful poetic creation. And in a few weeks time, if it doesn't pop, your Balloonhead will begin to wrinkle and look very, very old...

 

98. Woodland Poetry Magic

Gathering point: The walled garden next to St. Michaels Church
Length of quest, allow 2 hours!
Something's amiss in Ledbury's magical wood! The seasons have got stuck and time is on hold. You are invited to join in this adventurous quest to help find the solutions and solve the mystery.

Dress appropriately for the weather and woodland walking. Bring snacks and drinks. Younger tots best in backpacks but prams okay. Suitable for people of all ages, children under the supervision of adults. This exciting adventure is brought to you by our local charity Out to Play.

 

99. Create Misunderstood Monsters - The Workshop
1.30pm - 2.30pm
Baptist Church, downstairs
£3 per child, ages 4 - 8
Create your own misunderstood monsters through poetry, music and drawing. These monsters are then uploaded in the Free All Monsters Game where they can roam the entire globe and be collected by Monster Spotters everywhere.

100. Olympic Singathon - Songs from around the World

An Olympic singathon for all the family. Never sung outside of the shower before? Don't worry, natural voice practitioner Hanna Lawrence makes it easy, regardless of musical experience or ability. Come and enjoy a fun and uplifting mixture of songs.

 

101. Misunderstood Monsters - The Show
4pm - 5pm

£3, ages 4 - 8
Saint George, the monster catcher, is on his most dangerous mission yet and he needs your help. But are the monsters as monstrous as they seem or are they simply misunderstood? Overcome your fear of fiends, spiders, aliens, crocodiles etc. through the power of spoken word and music with Aoife Mannix and Janie Arnour. A show for 4 - 8 year olds in association with Apple & Snakes and Half Moon Young People's Theatre.
